percutian

valentine's day came and went without me noticing. nope, actually i did notice it cos it was our financial controller's bday as well. so we sang her a bday song (no valentine song, too corny), she blew out the candles, cut the cake, we each had a slice, i was happy.

then, the lover and i watched 'the holiday' last night (cheap movie day!). we were late arriving at the cinema (traffic was a right bitch to sunway pyramid on a wednesday doubled as val's day) so we missed the first 10mins of the show. nevertheless, caught it just in time.

this is what i thot of the movie.

i came into the movie theatre having high hopes for the show as it features JT's ex, the titanic biyatch (who let my leo drown - shite to her), mr. yummy jude lorr and the perpetually high blackjack. whoaa.. cast very the terrer one. sure best ni kan?

the funny thing is, i thought the cinematography was not the best one i've seen, the acting was so-so, and the storyline was - OMG i'm sorry to have to say this - cheesy! i, the empress of the chickflick land (i have a shitload of dvds to prove it), did not fall in love with this typical romantic comedy? where did it go wrong?

well... cammy was boring; jude's teeth were somewhat different in this movie from the ones he had in 'alfie' - so it made him look, well, not like him; blackjack was sober, i mean, he wasn't a crazy wild character like in his other movies, which is endearing to me; and kate was... hmm.. british.

nevertheless, i love the british wit. love love love. and the accent. sheeshh best gilos. i know that if i go to the UK, i'd pick up the accent quite quickly cos i have a knack for these things.. yaa, i'm one of those people who would go abroad and retain the accent when i come back. i'm ashamed of this about myself, but it's true *blush*.

and talking about british wit, i will definitely go and catch hugh grant's 'music & lyrics'. he's my fave british romantic comedy actor, like ever. his wit is razor sharp i tell u. i still remember his dialogue with sandra bollocks in '2 weeks notice':

hugh: tell me which tie looks nicer with this shirt.
sandy: -in disbelief- this is the emergency? u called me from my best fren's wedding for this?
hugh: well, i value your opinion very much!
sandy: -wailing- u are the most selfish person i've ever met on this planet!
hugh: that's ridiculous.. have u met every person on this planet?
sandy: ??? -storms off-

haha it goes smthg like that lah, not verbatim ok. my memory's rusty, so shoot me.

i digress as i always do, yet again.

so what were we talking about just now? oh yes 'the holiday'. i'd love to do that one day, do a home exchange program with someone from the states or uk or aussie maybe, why not. anywhere with mat sallehs. i don't care really.

loved cammy's wardrobe, wish i had her body.. no, that's never gonna happen.. well, i can wish to have kate's body at least.. and her hair, and her accent, and her life possibly. i hate mine right now. care to join my life exchange program for 2 weeks? ;)

all in all, the ending was a feel-good one, thankyouverymuch for saving the show. everyone ended up with the one they're supposed to and the credits rolled to them dancing in the living room of a strange house. one of their houses lah. i give it a C+.

the only A+ i can give is the lover keeping me warm under the blanky we brought. niiiiiice :)

psst... i used to have hair like cammy in this show when i was in college.. oh how i miss that hair *sniff*.

percutian saya ke phuket akan bermula dalam 20 hari. start the countdown!! woohooo :D

after 13 years of frenship, of sharing the ultimate ups and downs, we can safely and sincerely call ourselves "real frens"..

from the datings to the breaking-ups, the weddings to the birthings of new babies, the fights and the make ups, we've been there for each other, through thick and thin..

u are my frens, my confindants, my sisters...

As we walk our path of life, We meet people everyday.

Most are simply met by chance. But, some are sent our way.

These become special friends, Whose bond we can't explain;

The ones who understand us, And share our joy and pain.

Their love contains no boundaries. So, even we are apart.

Their presence enhances us, With a warmth felt in the heart.

This love becomes a passageway, When even the miles disappear.

And so, these friends, God sends our way,

Remain forever near.

things can only get bettar :S

resisting hugs and cuddles can only result in backaches & neck sprains.

going to bed angry can only make u older faster.

driving in kl can only make u a bitchy driver.

comparing your driver's license and your IC photos, which were taken 10 years apart, can only make u depressed.

eating too much sugar can only give u a temporary high, but it becomes a permanent resident on your ass.

not dieting for a beachy holiday that's coming up soon can only make u look like a fat piggy in your swimwear - and make u more depressed (great. they've finally found the mascot for chinese new year of the pig).

but....

reading the musings of a gay boy can only make u smile and laugh and keep u occupied throughout the day, which makes u feel better.

nando's chicken with snot, anyone?

i had lunch just now with heidey at nando's parade (where the robbing/shooting happened *gasp* but hungry people need to be fed, right?) and sitting next to our table was a couple of women, an aunty and a siew che.

so we were waiting for our food to arrive, and the aunty had already gone halfway on her food. and then she did it.

*SNORT* (purging out whatever's been living in her nostrils).

heidey and i rolled our eyes at each other. ok never mind.

then our food arrived and we dug in and didn't even speak to each other for a good 10 mins. and then she did it again.

*SNORRRRRT*

i looked at the aunty and said "excuse me, we're eating" quite nicely and calmly i might add, no anger intoned whatsoever.

she looked at me bewilderedly, like how-dare-u kind of way. and i continued eating my yummy lemon & herbs chicken happily, while feeling the glares of the two ogres next to us. i pretended they didn't exist.

out of geram-ness i suppose, the aunty was trying to make her presence felt by not snorting anymore but coughing up imaginary phlegm in her throat, as if a rat was stuck in there. i still kept my serene eating look and continued smiling at my plate of grilled chicken, chips + slaw, all the while noticing that they were talking in chinese about me. then, their bill came and they paid.

when the aunty and the siew che walked past our table to leave (cos that's the only way out) she whispered "shit" so i calmly said "shit u back". a coupla steps away she said "shit" again then i calmly again said, a bit louder for her to hear me correctly "shit u back". but all the while i was smiling doing it.

it was so stupid, it didn't even infuriate me haha :) heidey said her "shit" sounded like she sneezed, it was almost cute bwahahaha!

but anyway, siapa yang salah, tuan-tuan dan puan-puan?

was it wrong for me to say 'excuse me' to her and stop her from gagging on our food with her nose snorting?

aunty, kalau nak hembus hingus, pegilah makan kat kedai kopi tepi jalan yang i know u love and frequent so much. boleh lah kau duduk dengan satu kaki atas kerusi and korek hidung kan? kat sana sure takde orang akan cakap "excuse me" to u hahahaaa!

go back to your kampung la and don't eat nando's chicken anymore. huhuuu :D

what do u think...?

*a wandering mind's opinion on the subject of feb 14*

it's a basic human need - to love and be loved.

but what do u think..... of valentine's day?

day of love?
day to show your love to your loved one(s)?
day of splurging on your significant other?
day of romping?
day of bliss?

i say it's all a conspiracy to rip people off.

aside from the fact that u vaguely know who this valentine dude is and what he did to warrant such a day, and not forgetting that it's against the muslim teachings because apparently this valentine person was a saint of the christian faith yada yada (who gives a crap right?), more importantly and above all else - valentine's day is so OVER-COMMERCIALISED, it's totally bullshit.

now, i have no qualms over the normal affection and romance u'd like to shower your other half with on this particular day, like: giving flowers, chocolates & candies, other cutesie lovey stuff, plan for a romantic dinner, stay in a hotel for a night, bla3... i mean, i've been there and done all that when i was younger and more naive. what i can't stand is the fact that marketers take full advantage over these poor souls and rip them off of their hard-earned money! and i can't understand why these so-called "poor souls" even succumb to it. maybe they're just morons after all and i shouldn't give them due credit? whatever man. even if u are a well-to-do person, i still think it's just a rip-off if u pay so much money on one day of the year when it is condoned to charge the consumers overpriced flowers and candies and dinners. when the hell did it become condoned anyway?

so i ask u, where has the sanctity of love gone to? lost in the midst of all the advertising, promotions and marketing events that only benefit the organisations who initiated and over-commercialised the sacrilegious idea in the first place? in this very situation, love becomes a diluted word. love becomes a scapegoat. love becomes meaningless.

nevertheless, it takes two to tango. without the supply, there would be no demand, and vice versa. it's like an ugly tug of war - with the corporations laughing all the way to the bank at the people who actually cough up money, hard-earned money mind u (by now u'd know that i don't make that much, right? haha damn right i don't) and sucker them into buying what they define as "love". remember: love should not be defined by anybody but yourself.

to me, love is not giving extravagant things (although it would be nice hehe hey i'm just a girl). love is the little things that u show your (for eg:) other half like holding hands, hugging, kissing, communicating, listening, being mindful of each others needs/wants, being thoughtful towards him/her, paying attention to him/her.... just being with him/her, providing companionship. after all, God did give Adam his Eve when he complained that he was lonely.

showing your love to your other loved ones like parents, siblings or friends, i'm sure u know how because one's relationships with the people around him/her are unique to him/her. but i think showing your love to your parents and siblings can be done by just spending time with them.. just do anything, like sit and watch tv together, talk with them about anything, bringing them out for makan angin, taking them grocery shopping, etc... i think these activities that u have done with your family, things that they have conducted over and over again with u ever since u were born, will only strengthen your bond with them..

i think the world would be a better place without a "valentine's day". just think, no one would create such cunning marketing tactics to steer people into thinking that paying for love is showing love, and people like us would be more creative in showing love to our loved ones. don't get me wrong. i don't oppose the idea of giving things to your loved ones or spending them on expensive dinners or holidays to show them how much u love them. i just oppose the idea of doing all this on valentine's day. it's preposterous.

the cliched saying of "love is supposed to be celebrated everyday" rings so many truths, it hurts if u don't understand what it means..

wouldn't it be much much nicer if u showed your love on normal days...

  • on days when u feel tired after a long hard working day, your lover treats u at your favourite restaurant for a good meal - just because..

  • on days when u feel nothing special will happen to u, your lover delivers a bouquet of roses to your office - just because..

  • on days when u feel unappreciated, your lover sits down with u and listens to your every complaint..

  • on days when u feel like the whole world is against u, your lover pulls u and holds u tightly, as if nothing can ever harm u again and makes u feel a bit better, even if for a while..

i appreciate these things much much more. wouldn't u?

and it'd be more personal if u celebrate love on birthdays and anniversaries. now that's more meaningful because the specific day carries significant meaning only to u and your lover..

i'm sure some of u are saying: "eleh, kalau laki dia bagi bunga and bawak dia pegi dinner on valentine's, sure dia suka jugak". well, that tells me how much u know me. 'nuf said.

so a word to the naive: don't let anyone tell u how to show your love to your significant other, especially not valentine's day marketers. i majored in marketing so i would know. it's all a gimmick, a trick, a con to reap more profit for their organisations. that's all there is to it.

don't be the vulnerable sheep and the gullible cows.

have some principle.
