movie review: Luff...

...translated into CINTA.

it is SO (quadruple emphasized) much better than anything directed by yasmin ahmad ok - all the sepets and the gubras can't compete with this movie. directed by Kabir Bhatia (who the hell is he/she? never heard of pun but he/she sure can make a movie!), it is similar to Love Actually where it tells the story of 5 couples - be it gf/bf, frens, husband/wife or brother/sister - and the ups and downs that they go through in life but all connected by one simple and most common thread - love.

they say that yasmin ahmad's movies are the depiction of the true realities of the malaysian community - mixed marriages, HIV, prostitution, etc - but i think yasmin ahmad did more of self-indulgence in her shows. she likes to portray herself in the movies more than anything else.. in short, she's telling the story of her own life.

so it's obvious that i do not like yasmin ahmad the tranvestite-who-had-a-sex-change-operation (did u know she used to be a MAN? literally? ewwww). he/she's so screwed up, man. however, her/his ads for petronas are damn fine! like i told my sis inlaw, he/she should stick to making ads - short little movie-like 30-60sec shows. 2-hour movies are just too big for him/her.

ok enough digressing. i want to talk about each character in the movie.

the actors are:
- Nanu Baharuddin
- Rashidi Ishak
- Sharifah Amani
- Fatimah Abu Bakar
- Dato' Rahim Razali
- Que Haidar
- Rita Rudaini
- Pierre Andre (my personal fave ;)
- Eizlan Yusof
- Fasya Sandha

nanu: oklah, so so the acting. but the ending was heart-wrenching as well as unexpected. sob sob.

que haidar: firstly, what's up with the name? but he's oso oklah. i can't say anything spectacular about him, maybe cos i am indifferent towards him. he's a serious actor, that much i can say.

eizlan yusof: dah gemuks la this mamat. and major receding hairline. but cute just the same. acting wise, he's alright.

fasya sandha: i don't really fancy this girl - on screen or real-life. she seems to me to be a tad perasan lawa. she is lawa, but the fact that she acknowledges it is a turn off. i would actually prefer Fazura to take the role instead of Fasya. she's more natural and not pretentious. plus, her fluent english is a bonus, fasya is quite the melayu.

rashidi: i've liked this guy since he was in dead mushrooms. never heard his music though haha. just liked the face. he can act, this guy. his "story" in the movie was my favourite. i think the girl acting as his daughter in the show is his real kid. vanida even made a cameo appearance at the end. cute giler. i hope this real-life couple will stay married until one of them dies (please break the celebrity-marriages taboo, pleeeassseeeee).

rita rudaini: the bitch of the whole movie. left the hubby for another guy, when he's an angel. sucks big time. she was quite stiff in acting too. i dono, i just don't fancy this girl (hehe very biased review innit?)

fatimah abu bakar: mak si sharifah amani ni. she can always act, i've watched her act since back then lagi. i salute this aunty.

rahim razali: i've also liked this actor since Abang '92. so needless to say i have nothing much to complain about him.

sharifah amani: kononnya malaysia's sweetheart. i beg to differ lah. i never liked her and i dono if in the future she will startle me with some kind of fantastic acting, but for now i have to be biased. she acts like a little girl in most of her movies - with suara kecik macam baby, and then buat memek2 muka macam cute2 gitu... ish tak kuasa aku nak tengok. maybe guys love it lah, the manja2 type, but sorry, not me. I however can act like a baby with my hubby, that's in private so it's ok lah. but this girl acts like that for the whole world to see, i think that's just wrong. 'nuf said.

pierre andre: saved the best for last. this guy has a cute lisp when he speaks, which makes him imperfect and i like him for that. his acting is always with passion. but too bad for him, he always seem to get the quiet-but-romantic-guy-who-gets-the-girl-in-the-end characters. maybe he should be given roles of a bad boy pulak. then he can expand his skills :)

one more actor - gambit: he acted as khalif in the movie. mucho BAD acting. wins bad acting award hands down. BUT, such a beautiful boy. cute nak mampus.

*without revealing too much of the movie, the firm that rashidi and nanu works in is called dyanharris. rashidi is harris. so someone with the same name sitting next to me nudged me a few times and was beaming so proudly - instant fame la konon blechh*

storyline-wise, super. continuity of the story as a whole was well presented. it didn't leave the audience confused or perplexed (like with yasmin ahmad's movies). all it left me personally was with tears uhuk uhuk.. (mr. hubby didn't want to cry so he hugged me very tightly hehe).

all in all, a must watch! and bring lots of tissue ok :)

pick me up before u go go

in 100 forwarded emails, only 2 or 3 are good.. and this is an example of a good one.

*****

We all need to read this one over and over until it becomes part of who we are!

HOW TO STAY YOUNG

1. Try everything twice. On Madams tombstone (of Whelan's and Madam) she said she wanted this epitaph: Tried everything twice...loved it both times!

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down (keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches ;)

3. Keep learning: Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain get idle. "An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's!

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with HIM/HER.

6. The tears happen: Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. LIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love: Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

11. Forgive now those who made you cry. You might not get a second time.

Lost time can never be found! Life is what you make it, so make it great!!

thanks Kay, this is a good pick-me-upper :)

mis-conceptions

i've got pregnant frens who complain of aches and pains and sleepless nights... and i've got frens and a sister with kids who often lament of sicknesses and again, sleepless nights... i'm not scared of facing this imminent phase in my life... in fact, i'm looking forward to it. but i'm quite glad that we are childless for the time being...

it is always better to court for more than a year first before u decide to tie the knot but to those who are on the same boat as i - i.e. did not have the opportunity to be in a long courtship, got married soon after u became a couple - it is very much advisable that u do not immediately decide to have babies becos u don't really know the person u're marrying.. so take the time to really discover each other for who u really are as individuals.. get to really know your spouse's behavior, actions & reactions, habits, thoughts, values, and other things that attracted u to him/her in the first place. if u put a baby in the equation sooner than u should, then thereafter it'll only be about the baby and not about u or your spouse. your individuality is lost in the background and that'll be the main ingredient for a bitter stew called resentment.

don't underestimate this feeling - resentment. many people don't even know what it means, but they certainly feel it at one point or another. and it can grow into a bigger monster if it's not given the right remedy. when your spouse puts all his/her attention and thought to the newborn, u will feel a tinge of jealousy whether u like it or not. without knowing the real intention, u will already resent him/her for neglecting u. if u had only taken the time to get to know your partner, u will know that he/she only means well..

maybe i'm wrong about this, but this is what i would feel if i had thrown myself into the baby-production pool sooner than i'd like. but since jim and i have made the decision to take it slow, i am very glad we did. at least it gives me time to recollect myself, to prepare for the pregnancy and birth, to slowly change my mindset to that of a mother's who is responsible for another life. these are huge issues to deal with and many people fail to think of it. even the would-be father has to think of his bigger commitments after having another mouth to feed, so taking it slow would give him the chance to prepare for fatherhood.

i feel that many children are brought up wrongly due to mis-conceptions... couples who don't plan to get pregnant and so they weren't prepared for it. becos of the poor preparation, they would bring up their child poorly - with too much or too little of everything. this often results in poor quality kids.

whatever it is, do not take lightly the getting-to-know-each-other-as-a-married-couple period. this is the time when u can set the rules of conduct in your marriage, what u expect from your other half pre- and post-natal.

i will be 30 next year and although there are many health risks with having your first baby at this age and beyond, i have no regrets. i learned about the man i married and i love him more for who he is now more than ever. with this strong foundation, i am very confident that he will be a good father and i can't wait to bear his child when it's time.. when is it time? we're trying to conceive after our 1st anniversary in march. hopefully we'll have a beautiful baby by end of 2007...

i can't wait to see how our offspring will look like! hope that he/she will take after my cuteness (haha perasannnn) and the daddy's character :)

quote jimmy harris: i'm back in business! =D

yes he is! back in business i mean. what business? that's for me to know and for u not to find out lah :P

PD was fab! it was a very good wkend break with the family. the apartment we stayed in was bad though. please do NOT go to Paradise Lagoon Apartments (beside Corus Paradise Resort - this Corus is heaven compared to the one we stayed at). there were so many flies it's not funny! macam dekat Somalia siot. flies were in our apartment no doubt, on the sand pun ada! in fact, they sort of hang around on the sand in the thousands at this one spot and they looked like one big black "thing" - ewwwwwwww mucho disgusting! jim said they also want to lepak on the beach mah - ya very funny ha-ha. imagine them on u - urrghhh sooooo grosssssss.

but besides that, it was one of the best family get-togethers we've had. we laughed a lot, played with each other, teased one another - it made the old folks happy to see that their children and their spouses are very happy to be with them.. the trip was actually the siblings' birthday present to umi together with a cake, while walid gave her cash. how "romantic" is my father :P

see the photos.

we swam in the beach and the Corus' pool.. no doubt i was the most happening girl there (hehe) with my proper bathing suit on.. others were wearing t-shirts and shorts and tights.. what's the point of swimming in a pool if u're gonna be all covered up? defeats the point if u ask me. however, my (not so very) pious dad scolded me lightly to "tutup aurat" - b.o.r.i.n.g. i said to him - it's a vacation, lighten up (not exactly in those words but to that effect hehe anak kurang hajar a.k.a tak makan saman betul).

and also, gypsie came home with stitches yesterday on her tummy. poor thing was still groggy when we brought her back but she's got the spirit of a midget tiger.. when the anasthetics wore off, she was back on her feet and playing with panda. now gypsie can't be harmed by the many rapists prowling outside our house. hooray to modern medicine!

well anyways, i don't have me a tan but my heart is warmed from the banter with the family. it's so nice to be with people who have the same history as u - u don't have to explain much and they automatically understand. u can be your most disgusting self and they will still accept u no matter what. i was very disgusting by the way - farting here, burping there, and more - but they don't care. and i love them for that :)

on the radio now: ...let's make lots of money...

i have not one ounce of spirit to do any work at all today, although there are some work that should've been introduced to the 'out' tray weeks ago. hell, i didn't even dress for work properly..

it's raining cats and dogs outside and i'm cosily sitting at my cubicle away from annoying bosses and workmates. what would make it perfect is a hot cup of cocoa... mmm yumm. tapi takde cocoa la pulak, it's either the teh kurus or boring old milo. hmmph.

the song that's playing on my internet radio now is "hero" by mariah carey. ya ya she's singing of a hero deep inside, so when i feel like hope is gone i should look inside and be strong cos then i'd see the truth and realise that a hero lies in me... bla3. SO not the right song for me right now. i'm singing "i wanna go home" in my head to the tune of are u sleeping:

i wanna go home, i wanna go home
go to sleep, go to sleep
show me where the road is, let me make my way there
home sweet home, home sweet home.

next monday the PR dept will be receiving an intern and she'll be designated under me, basically i'll have to be her mentor lah. aiyakkk.. so leceh one. eric my s****d boss didn't even bother to interview her before agreeing to take her in. what the hell. this girl is the admin exec's sister, so on that grounds, eric accepted her just like that. we don't know jack about her. i asked sidik, the brother, the other day whether she can drive and he said she can't! oh dear me. how la to work in an automotive company and not know how to drive? some more want to be in the PR dept... we do a lot of driving tau. now there's a nagging thot at the back of my mind that says maybe she can't even speak english (cos i've never heard the brother speak a word of it). shite! ok ok calm down, let's not panic. don't judge someone before even meeting her lah. i'm gonna prepare for the worst but expect the best *crossing fingers*

it's such a slow day. i can count how many emails i got since morning. the grils are so quiet *what up wei?* went out with kayun last nite for her wedding dress' fitting at amin jauhary's shop in pertama kompleks. we were supposed to go to his 1Utama shop but smthg came up and yada3 we had to painfully go to kl in the prime hour of traffic jams. luckily she drived (hehe sorry yun, i couldn't have done it).

rina's so quiet (dah stop keja ke belum dia ni?). ez's gone mia again. shahreen-the-jet-setting-tnb-prez-wannabe is just too bz, sonta sonata is bz taking care of baby chloe and maybe preparing to start work again next week after her 2 month long horiray. i'm too lazy to chat so i'm just waiting patiently for the time to pass.

tonite we're sending gypsie to the vet for her spaying. mama's little gypsie will no longer be a woman when she comes back home nanti, poor ting. then, we're going to uptown to do some cat supplies shopping, some eating, some banking, and maybe some bonking later on (at home lah) hehe.

by this time tomorrow we'll be in port dickson! yippie! i'll be enjoying the sea and the sand from afar hehe i'm more of the sun- rather than the sea-bather.

i hope it doesn't rain as bad as today. kalau tak, rugilah... kasian the kids :'(

i thot i thaw a poody tat

others post photos of their kids, i post photos of my kits hehe.
geddit? kids / kits (short for kittens?)
oh whatever.
