review time.

throughout the wkend we watched 2 movies only - ghost rider and dreamgirls.

1. ghost rider

this is the movie version of the comic book by marvel ( i think it's marvel).. i've never heard of this comic book so i was a bit surprised to see 'marvel' at the beginning of the show. don't go into the cinema with any expectation - even though the main actor is nicolas cage.

the fx was quite good, everytime they show the horrible faces on the big screen, i tend to curl up in my seat and close my eyes cos they are very gruesome images. but don't take my word for it lah, i'm just a scaredy cat.
i give it a B+.

2. dreamgirls

this is a story loosely based on diana ross and the supremes - how they started, what they had to go through, how they got to be big stars - etc. newcomer jennifer hudson (american idol finalist season 4 kot) is a brilliant actress, to my delight. that means AI doesn't generate meaningless singers but ones who are very talented in other areas as well.. she got nominated for best actress for the coming oscar's so that shows how good she is..

also, don't go into the cinema with any expectations lah, even if u already know that it's a star-studded show - beyonce, eddie murphy, jamie foxx and the oscar-nominated jennifer hudson to say the least.. if u can stand a musical, then this is a good movie for u because there'll be sudden bursts of breaking into song from the characters (which made the other audience laugh - silly malaysians). the songs are all related to the issues that they are facing at the time and the list of songs on the soundtrack is very appealing to me - very soulful, my kinda genre. made my tears stream down my face at certain parts... so touching.

i give this an A.

i watched this other movie yesterday with heidey, i.e.
3. music & lyrics

heheh finally dapat jugak aku tengok citer ni.

hugh grant with his casual wit and drew barrymore with her childish charm.. she's got this aura around her that made us didn't want to take our eyes off her (this is partly due to hugh's aging features, which have turned heidey off, but mostly we were drooling at the clothes that drew wore OMG they're sooooo larvelly!!)

plot very simple: girl meets boy, boy finds girl appealing, girl also thinks boy is cool, they hook up, get into a disagreement along the way, girl merajuk, boy pujuks, they get back together and live happily thereon after..

i have 3 words to describe it - sweet, charming & funny. the best ingredients of a romantic comedy.

i won't rate it - just go watch :)

another signature hugh grant line:

drew: i want to go to florida where i can grow..
hugh: that's ridiculous! no one grows in florida... except if they're oranges
drew: ??? -sighs heavily-

haha
